Vicks nasal spray recalled after bacteria found. Contaminated bottles of Sinex medication sent to U.S., Germany and UK.

There has been a Vicks recall for Sinex nasal spray products in the United States, Germany and Britain after testing by Proctor & Gamble found B. cepacia, a bacteria that can cause devastating infections in individuals with lung conditions or frail immune systems.

Although there haven't been any reports of individuals falling sick, this precautionary step of recalling Vicks' Sinex Nasal Spray may prevent future illnesses, or raise awareness about why someone got ill after using a Vicks nasal spray product.

What are the nasal spray product names Vicks recalled?

The Vicks recall only affects the United States, Germany and Britain. For all three countries, the products only affect the 15mm size container. Vicks nasal spray products recalled include:

  • In the United States, Vicks recalled Vick's Sinex Vapospray 12-hour Decongestant Ultra
    Fine Mist
  • In Germany, Wick Sinex Schnupfenspray Doisersystem was recalled
  • In Britain. Procter & Gamble recalled Vicks Sinex Micromist Aqueous Nasal Spray

What to do with recalled nasal spray products?

According to Procter & Gamble, any individuals that own a recalled Vicks nasal spray should immediately throw it away. Vicks will be replacing or refunding any affected consumers, so be sure to contact the company immediately.

If you need a replacement nasal spray, please call or stop by our pharmacy and we'd be happy to recommend a new product.
